Why we stock iO Ultimate Clean

Ultimate Clean is Oral-B's everyday deep-clean iO head: a round head with bristles angled at 16 degrees to reach around each tooth, and blue indicator bristles that fade towards white when a change is due. It is the head that goes into our Complete Care Bundle, in black to match the iO9 Black Onyx. Every pack we sell is genuine Oral-B, never a "compatible" copy: when City of London Police seized counterfeit toothbrush heads in 2023, they warned that fakes are often made in unsanitary conditions and can detach in the mouth.

Buyer's questions

Which Oral-B replacement heads do I need?

Look at the handle. If it is an iO, from the iO2 to the iO10, it needs iO heads, and these fit. Oral-B's older Pro, Vitality, Smart and Genius handles take classic heads with a different fitting, and the two do not swap in either direction. Our guide to which heads fit the iO9 has the full table, and if you are still on a classic brush, the iO9 Black Onyx at £164.99 is the upgrade our dentists recommend.

How often should I replace an Oral-B head?

Every three months, or sooner if the bristles splay: Oral-B's guidance and ours. Heads that flatten in a few weeks usually mean too much pressure, and the iO9's ring shows you when to ease off. More in how often to change your electric toothbrush head.

How much do iO heads cost a year?

£20 for four, about 7p a day, or £18 with subscribe and save: one pack a year for one person, two for a couple.

Do these heads fit the iO9 and iO10?

Yes, both take Oral-B iO heads only. Buying the brush too? The £180 Complete Care Bundle includes the Oral-B iO9 Black Onyx, this four-pack and a Biorepair Plus toothpaste, saving £11.98. Our guide to every Oral-B model explains why we chose the iO9.
