Why the iO9, out of the whole Oral-B range

Step down from the iO9 and every model gives something up: fewer modes, no colour display, slower charging, app tracking of six zones instead of 16 or, on the Vitality and Pro, no micro-vibrations at all. Step up to the iO10 and you pay far more for a light-up charger; the brush in your hand is the same. Our guide to every Oral-B model and our iO9 vs iO10 comparison set it out model by model.

Buyer's questions

Which Oral-B electric toothbrush is best?

For most adults, the iO9: pressure feedback you can see, a colour display, seven modes and optional coaching in the Oral-B app, in one handle. Our dentist's iO9 review makes the full case.

Is Oral-B a sonic toothbrush?

No. The iO is oscillating-rotating: a round head turns back and forth around each tooth, with micro-vibrations added. Sonic brushes such as Philips Sonicare vibrate a brush-shaped head from side to side. Research gives the round-head design a small edge for plaque and gum bleeding, and the iO9 costs far less than a premium Sonicare, with cheaper heads: see our iO9 vs Philips Sonicare comparison.

Which heads does the iO9 take?

Oral-B iO heads only. Our genuine iO replacement heads are £20 for four, a year's supply for one person, or £18 with subscribe and save.

Do you sell children's electric toothbrushes?

The Oral-B iO Kids and Pro Kids are coming soon. Our guide to electric toothbrushes for kids covers which suits which age, and for teenagers ready for a full-size brush, we choose the iO9.
